A long time ago, someone left... an avocado seed, I think ... to grow in a jam jar of water in my flat while I was away. And grow it did, so much so that when I came back I found that I had a sort of plant. Eventually, I went and got a flower pot and some planting earth and planted it. I grew for a while, then eventually lost interest and died. I kept the flower pot with earth in it, because I was kind of in denial about my failure to grow the plant. Eventually I had to realise it wasn 't really my fault, it was nature, or aliens or something.
